Freehand Half Moons

Hi everyone,
Looking back through my last few designs I've realised I've been using turquoise a lot! I think it's slowly becoming my new favourite nail polish colour, I think I love it almost as much as purple!

Anyway, continuing with turquoise/green nails, I thought I'd have a go at doing half moon nails again. Half moons are such a simple design but are so elegant. The last time I tried this design I used hole reinforces to get the moon shape (see the post here), but as promised I said I would try this design freehand.
Here is the outcome:

I used Max Factor Cool Jade and Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish Your Majesty.

I think my freehand attempt has turned out well, it's not quite perfect but I'm happy with it. I really like this colour combination too - it's one I'll have to use more often.

Here is a close up:

I also have a comparison photo with the half moons I did using hole reinforcers:

I think both design work well but have their flaws too. It was a lot harder to get the perfect shape by doing it freehand compared to using hole reinforcers. However by using hole reinforcers, your main colour (purple for me) needs to be a one coater, otherwise you cannot remove the reinforcers when the polishes is wet, leaving an uneven line.

Overall I really like this colour combination - it's simple and understated.
I think both methods to create half moons work well, but I think it's up to the individual themselves which method they prefer.

Do you like this design?
Which method to do prefer?
Let me know what you think

  1. Great colour combination! I always do half moons freehand, but it's such a struggle to get it right though :)

  5. The turquoise and silver look great together. Might have to try this colour combo! We prefer the freehand method - the shape of the moons is slightly curvier. Emma & Jo.xx
